Postby Mad Duff » Sun Jan 11, 2009 7:32 am

Common Name: Ganges Rasbora or Gangetic Scissortail Rasbora

Scientific name: Rasbora rasbora

Family: Cyprinidae

Origin: Asia, Thailand, India, Burma

Size: 100mm to 110mm

Care: Plenty of open swimming space is needed for these very active shoaling fish, they tend to not like bright lights so some floating plants should be used to dim the aquarium lights a little. Ideal ph levels would be 6 to 6.5 but a ph of 7 is readily accepted, ideal temperature range would be 20’C to 26’C.

Feeding: Most dried foods are accepted like flakes, pellets etc but bloodworms, midge larvae, tubifex worms and daphnia should be a big part of their diet be it live or frozen.

Sexing and Breeding: Females tend to be more robust than the slender males, females also tend to exhibit a stronger and more curved ventral line. No reports of breeding are known of.

Comments: A tight fitting lid is a must as these fish are very good jumpers.
